The BirdPOTY (bird photographer of the year) has been held annually since 2016 rewarding best photographers through 7 categories. Categories include the best portrait, birds in the environment, attention to detail, bird behavior, birds in flight, garden and urban birds, and lastly, the creative imagery. The bonus category and the most important one is the prestige title – Bird Photographer of the Year which is followed with a grand prize of £5,000. This year’s grand winner is British photographer Caron Steele with her glorious photograph of a Dalmatian Pelican on a frozen Lake Kerkini in Greece. There are also 3 more categories: young bird photographer of the year, inspirational encounters, best portfolio, and honourable mentions (2 from each of the main categories).
